Macrobrachium sp. "Opium"*
Shrimps which we received were very weak. Transport did them very bad. Water in which they came had 11 GH. Parameters like pH and KH surly changed during transportation.
This shrimp is rather slow and chickenhearted. Likes to stay hidden. At our place, where it has a choise between roots and rock it chooses gaps between rocks. Looking at few of them we can say them difference between sex is marked not by only tongs size (male has bigger and stronger ones). Female color is from dark violet blue to red. Male color is similar to poppy flower color, with different intense of pigmentation. Both male and female have pattern on nether part of carapax (much similar to Macrobrachium pilimanus). It's a strong shrimp, other macrobrachium (even bigger ones) get out of its way.
They fight against each other for territories (also females). They rather don't attack fish (we checked: Xiphophorus maculatus, Xiphophorus helleri, Chanda ranga, Ancistrus dolichopterus, Trichogaster trichopterus). In tank they eat all types of food.
Partly water changing and adding humus acid to water might have influence on the fact that after six days females started to carry eggs.
There is very little information about this shrimp.
Basing on our own information we will try to inform about live of this beautiful shrimp.
