Visit at Chris Lukhaup place - February 2005 (site 2/7)
Chris was a little absend minded. He was completly after crayfishes, he put his hand into tank straight ahead.
- What are you looking for?? - I asked
- Females with eggs. If you find one it's yours - he replied with smile.
I didn't hesitate for too long and put my hand into the tank in search for female. I was taking out each one and checking if they had eggs. I saw that Chris was smiling looking at my desperation. Probably I got just males, because he was the first one to see females:) ( photos don't show madness in Pawel eyes - reminds Jackie)
Neither I nor Chris found female with eggs. Chris took few of them to make photos and description. I was so fascinated with my hunting that it took me a while to notice that Jackie was looking at the tank in which was about 80 Cherax cf. papuanus. That was a view!! Pile of pcv pipes put in pyramid shape and almost in each of them was one cancer. It looked pretty unusual. After a while you could see a hierarchy. Biggest were taking the lowest and in the corner next to which there were other pipes (ability to fast change of hideout). I stood there for a while watching this "living tower".
- Look what a cool shrimps - I heard Jackie voice
From a distance I saw a tank with moving orange points. Chris explained to us that it's a new specie - Caridina palmata. In their alimentary canal lives special type of fungus, this turns orange inside.
- They look out of this world, like if they had eaten nectarines - I said
- They're amazing - said Jackie
I asked Chris if their come from breeding in Germany. It turned out that it was absolutely new, just imported.
- Great, we will be first :) - I got happy
We crouched in front of tank and looked at these fascinating animals for about 20 minutes.
