Caridina sp. "Crystal Red"

Apperance: This form was created by selections from Caridina sp. "Biene". It's red and white stripes , red color might be strengthening by giving the food rich in carotenoids.
Origin: Japan (wild form comes from China)
Size: Males to 2,5 cm, females to 3,5 cm.
Water conditions: Temp about 25 C, soft water (to 10 GH), pH 6-7. This shrimp is very sensitive to bad water conditions, nitrogen and copper conjunctions in water and too high temperature.
Tank layout: They like tanks with sand substrate, lots of plants and roots.
Food: Algae, artificial aliments with spirulin. Natural and artificial aliments containing carotenoids.
Breeding:No larvae stadium. Female carries about eggs for 3 - 4 weeks. Young ones are fully formed (about 30 of them) and they are about 1,5 mm big. Day become mature in age of 3 - 4 months.

This magnificent shrimp was selected from wild form shrimps by Japanese breeder Hisagasu Suzuki in 1996. Colors (red and white) are stabile and may perform in different configurations: from version with most red and thin, white stripes (the most popular version) up to version with wide, white stripes (the most wanted version). Red might have different tints (orange-red, blood red, thin red, red wine color). We are trying to pick ones with intensive colors to breed. Young ones just after they are born have colors like the mature ones. Caridina sp. "Crystal Red" is part of serrata group, so it shouldn't be kept with other members of this group because they might mix. Because it feels very good in group tank for them shouldn't be smaller than 30 liter. This shrimps presents best with green background and dark roots. Probably because of vivid pigmentation it's shyer than its wild form. Also from breeding we receive less offspring. It might not breed when there's too hard and alkaline water, and always when there's too high temperature.
