Some source say that the color changes when shrimp is being kept in bad conditions (it should be green all the time), other sources say that it depends from mood and background. Some even say that there are different colors are because there are different color types of Caridina cf. babaulti.
Origin: India
Size: Males to 3,5 cm, females to 4 cm. Female are more massive.
Water conditions: Temp 20 - 25 C, water should be middle hard round pH 7.
Tank layout: They like tanks with lots of plants and many hideouts like roots. There should be sand substrate
Food: Algae, artificial aliments with spirulin. From time to time they can be fed with small size living food (eventually frozen). They can also eat dead animals.
Breeding:No larvae stadium. Sources give different information about breeding these shrimps. According to www.wirbellose.de and petshrimp.com C. babaulti eggs are extremely small, and born shrimps microscopic size and very hard to feed (they need sediment in tank bottom). Polish aquarists experiences say that their eggs and born shrimps are normal (for caridinas) size (round 2 mm).

Aquarium for a group of C. babaulti doesn't have to be big, 20-30 liter tank will do. When you want to keep other shrimps in it as well it should be pro rata bigger. They shouldn't be kept with aggressive fish or shrimps because they are very peaceful. You may find this shrimp under name Caridina ceylanica or Caridina sp "Rainbow"
